Whats the car you love to love, even though you love to hate the ones who make.... the car?
Now, I know I have a lot of these buried in my memory banks, but I can't remember them because I got about 2 hours of sleep last night. So I'll talk about whats for sale right down the street from where I work.
(I'd love to embed this link as text, but kinja won't let me! #thankskinja)

The Regal GS has a 2.0L turbo I4 (same as in the cobalt SS) making 270hp and 295tq. When the car first came out, it was only available with a 6spd manual trans. It also came with four piston brembo brakes up front, as well as 19" wheels which I believe were an option. If memory serves me right, 18's were standard. In 2013 they revised the car, dropping the power to 258 (and raising the turbo CXL to the same hp) but adding an optional haldex AWD system. The only part that sucks is, the AWD is only available with an automatic.
A couple of years ago, when I was trying to talk my dad into buying something that wasn't a GMT900 based vehicle, we went to test drive a 2012 Regal GS 6spd. It is, indeed, a very nice car. It feels well built, its nicely equipped, and it goes well to. Since it has the same ecotec as the cobalt, the aftermarket is there to really jack up the power to.
So tell me oppo, what is a car that you like, from a company you could care less about? Lets see some of your guilty pleasure cars.

But it isn't the same as the Cobalt SS.......
![]() 02/28/2014 at 12:02 |

I know, its built better!
![]() 02/28/2014 at 12:03 |

Its different block.
Higher compression.
The Cams phase backwards as opposed to forwards as well

May I present the most bonkers machine ever made from Audi. The only reason why I adore this piece of machinery is because of the hp this estate produces. Although Audi as a whole is the most bland and boring front-wheel drive cars you can buy AT THE MOMENT.
![]() 02/28/2014 at 12:06 |

how many 2.0L turbo ecotec's did GM make?
You're trying to tell me its not like the LSx where they dropped essentially the same motor in 30 different platforms?

I'm not very good with audi's, is that a RS6?
I like the RS lineup, thats what I'd have to go for if I bought something from the 4 rings.
![]() 02/28/2014 at 12:07 |

I wouldn't feel guilty about the Regal. It was cool with the Opel badge before, so who cares about the Buick badge?

I'm not a fan of Hyundai's but hot damn if I don't want a Genesis R-Spec.

Shh...
![]() 02/28/2014 at 12:08 |

Yup it is an Audi RS6. Never liked the RS line-up myself, nose heavy animals.

There are three different blocks.
Gen 2 was in the Cobalt SS, Gen 3 is in the Buick, the Opel, and the Cadillac I believe.
It is essentially the same motor, but as the Gen's go up, they were better built.
The Gen 2 has a pourus block and liked to reject Cylinder 4 whenever it felt like it could.
Gen 3 fixed that.
The fueling system is better balanced so Cylinder 4 won't lean out and the compression is slightly higher. Thus making the slightly higher power output.
I'm not sure about the Buicks, but the Opel Astra was girdled for 500whpish
![]() 02/28/2014 at 12:12 |

so are they still the same in the sense that, like the cobalt SS, you can throw a tune and a couple of bolt ons at it and make 280WHP?
![]() 02/28/2014 at 12:13 |

This is going to sound pretentious, but I'm a Porsche and Mini guy. I like fine engineering and well adorned interiors. An Audi with a manual is the kind of car for me. Growing up, I associated Corvettes with middle age crises and automatics. But I want one so bad.

I can tell you're a stickler for handling by your username lol

I have heard those things move out well for their size

Don't you judge me!!!
![]() 02/28/2014 at 12:15 |

A few bolt ons and a tune and I'm well over 280whp......
Upgraded charge piping, intercooler, tune, catless DP, and I make 300+whp and 400+ wheel ft lbs of tq.
![]() 02/28/2014 at 12:15 |

I hate the wheels on this, but dat color tho

I've ridden in a ton of these haha

W140 Mercedes. Stupid Malaysian tax and electric gremlins made me stay away from it and opt for a local Proton Perdana instead.. Although even with the 2,800cc engine, It's my guilty pleasure.

is it true the ecotec came from saab

The Juke R
Not a fan of any Nissan, but I like this.
![]() 02/28/2014 at 12:18 |

I am judging the shit out of you right now.
At least get the turbo!
![]() 02/28/2014 at 12:19 |

That seems like a pretty small engine for such a big car. I'm not well versed in W140's though.
![]() 02/28/2014 at 12:20 |

The Juke R was like a happy accident in the auto world

More based from Opel.
They all share components.
Interesting things about the LHU (buick Engine) it has aluminum pistons, forged bottom end, sodium filled valves, and from what I know is the only engine to have that in the GM aside from the Corvette.

Sharknose BMWs are cool in my book. They look badass, performed well for their time and are well made. Most six-cylinder Japanese cars would also apply.
However, I don't call them guilty pleasures nor do I think there is such a thing. If I like something it's because I find worth on it. Nothing to feel guilty about, it's not shocking that [insert dull manufacturer here] succeeded once in their lifetime.

Mercury Marauder.
To me, Mercury vehicles of the last 17 or so years were just slightly pimped out Fords slotted in just under the Lincoln brand...with no true reason to actually exist...
But the Marauder, that makes my mouth water.

Some 2800cc W140 owners I knew said that the small engine can handle the huge body. Alas, I still can't afford it
![]() 02/28/2014 at 12:22 |

Its stupid face only makes sense with the GTR drive train.
![]() 02/28/2014 at 12:22 |

I'm assuming its a gas engine right? I4? V6?
![]() 02/28/2014 at 12:22 |

I'm insanely jealous of Matt Farah's new Notchback ex-CHP 'Stang. Brand new crate engine, all new suspension, an owner who took incredible care of it, etc. I would have jumped on that thing so fast if I had found it first.
So yes, my guilty pleasure car is most definitely the fox body Mustang.
![]() 02/28/2014 at 12:23 |

its so ugly,
yet, it doesn't matter because it can go up against 90% of the exotics on the road and push their shit in.

I saw that video the other day, he definitely picked up a clean notch

Being a red, white and blue Cold War baby who was taught to hate teh commies while we duck'd 'n cover'd, you can call me "Red" in exchange for a Gaz 21 wagon.

I just googled "Veloster Turbo" that's what popped up.

Don't quote me on this, because I could change my mind in five minutes but... If I was to take any communist era, not military vehicle I think it'd be a UAZ 452

My views on Ferrari...are not what one would call mainstream. For starters, I believe Enzo was a bag of dicks.
That said, the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa
![]() 02/28/2014 at 12:27 |

The only way I can tell them apart is by the tailpipes. I would never know a difference in the front

I've heard of some people refer to the 80's BMW's (up until about 87) as the "shark nose era", then the e24 guys say "no we're the real sharks"
I guess I can't take my e23 to shark fest lol
![]() 02/28/2014 at 12:29 |
|
They got everything on that car except the straight line performance correct
![]() 02/28/2014 at 12:32 |

Don't quote me on this but I believe the sharknose term was first given to the E24 and then spread to most BMWs of that era.
![]() 02/28/2014 at 12:36 |
|
I believe it
I just wish the E24 underpinnings were based off the e23, and not the e12 - e28. It'd mean more aftermarket for my car lol
The 6 series is built off the 5 series but LOOKS like a 7 series coupe!

Super Snake. Not too keen on GM and Ford, but I'd buy this day in and day out.
![]() 02/28/2014 at 12:45 |

But Why?!?
It's funny how not being able to have something can make people lust after the weirdest things. Riding in one is like being in a Ford Econoline...only powered by an engine out of a Fiesta.
![]() 02/28/2014 at 13:21 |

That's because the ignition system won't kill you if you crash it haha

The Dodge Viper and Jeep Wrangler. I don't like Chrysler products, but I have always liked these 2.

FSO Syrena because it's soo goddamn cute looking

The grilles are quite different. And the matte paint is a dead giveaway.

This. Honda/Acura has been quite dull lately. This car was really something special.
![]() 03/01/2014 at 00:22 |

Don't judge me.
My wife had one that looked identical to this - 2.0 5-speed - and it was actually fun to drive.
The gears were pretty steep so it felt like it was faster than it actually was. It handled pretty well, too, for a convertible based on a mkiii Golf
As the wheels started to flake and peel I tried to talk her into an orange Gulf stripe.

One of my friends dads has a... I think its a 01 black turbo S with the manual. It has over 170k miles on it.

I dunno, the shape, the layout, they're good bases for doing silly things. I don't like it for any lusty reason; more for its interesting charm for a North American citizen.
This is a guilty pleasure, in the terms of what most people are saying. Citroen to me is much cooler, but this is just...cool.

I need to one day.

ha, fair enough. I actually saw a RHD Toyota Alphard driving down the street in San Francisco a few months ago and was really really confused/intrigued. Of course if I were in Asia I wouldn't have bat an eye lid over it.
